McAllen, TX – With the craft beer culture on the rise, the IMAS Battle of the Brew provides the growing homebrew community the opportunity to showcase their craft beer in front of sanctioned BJCP judges every year. The Battle of the Brew is a prestigious competition with “celebrity” judges who are certified brewers. This competition follows all AHA/BJCP rules. It gives local, regional, and State brewers a chance to show and share their great beers to people in Rio Grande Valley, get feedback, and a chance to win a medal or cash prize.
Homebrewers from all over the country got their chance to be as creative and unique as they wanted at this competition. This year we engaged more homebrewers both locally and throughout the state. There were 88 entries submitted to the 6th Annual Battle of the Brew contest. The winners were announced on April 4 at Roosevelt’s at 7, sponsored by L&F Distributors, which features a variety of premier breweries from around the country.
Not Common at All beer from Andy Scherzinger Club won first place Best of Show. Second place was Big Bad Voodoo Stout 2016 from them as well. Indigenous Wit III from David Allen won the third place, and Wallonia 5580 from Ken Griffith & Co-brewer Andrew Scott received Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all the winners!
The funds raised at “Brew-seum Craft Beer Week” will help IMAS fulfill its mission to create an environment that inspires, educates and entertains the public through the arts and sciences. Thanks again to everyone that came out and enjoyed a great night with us and brewers.
